Finding clients as a coach: what works, and what wastes your time

Bart van Dijk · 23 August 2026

Anyone starting as a coach quickly discovers that craftsmanship alone is not enough: clients first need to find you and trust you. There's a lot of noise about how to be found, so let's be honest about what works.

What Works

Being visible where the search demand already exists: people actively looking for a coach compare profiles. So, make sure your profile is complete: a recognizable specialization, a clear method, a transparent rate, and a photo. Respond quickly to inquiries; someone looking for a coach has usually postponed the question for months and will disengage with silence. And make the first step small: a no-obligation introductory meeting lowers the threshold more than any text. Afterwards, ask satisfied clients if they would recommend you or leave a review; that feels awkward and works excellently.

What Wastes Your Time

Waiting for word-of-mouth to solve it on its own (that takes years), being everywhere on social media simultaneously without a plan, and making big promises. Clients see through "guaranteed results," and rightly so. Rather choose one channel you can maintain than five you neglect, and measure what genuinely generates inquiries.

What Builds Trust

Verifiability. 'Coach' is not a protected title, so anything that makes you verifiable helps: accurate registrations, a verified profile, a rate without asterisks. At Coachloket, we check every profile beforehand; we don't promise you a full calendar, but we do offer a showcase where seekers truly compare and a private coaching space per client to work professionally, with chat, email, and assignments in one secure place.
